Located within the Söğütlüçeşme Terminal, developed by Akfen Holding in Kadıköy, Istanbul, Yokocho is a restaurant project designed to reinterpret the vibrant spirit of Asian street culture through contemporary restaurant interior architecture. Developed in collaboration with Toros and Partners, MSA (Culinary Arts Academy), and Akfen Holding, the project transforms the energy of Asian street food into an immersive spatial experience.
The interior architecture is shaped around a strong visual identity inspired by the lively atmosphere of Asian streets. Bold red and blue tones on the exterior, combined with black and red furniture, create an energetic and inviting presence, while ceramic surfaces reflect the dynamic rhythm of urban street culture. The Yokocho logo, composed of varied typographic expressions, brings the spontaneity of street aesthetics directly into the spatial language.
Inside, traditional Japanese references are reinterpreted through a contemporary design approach. Lighting inspired by Japanese tōrō lanterns and layered red illumination behind doorways introduce a cinematic warmth, reinforcing cultural references while enhancing spatial depth. Industrial elements, wooden textures, and Asian-inspired graphic posters contribute to a multi-layered environment that evokes the feeling of walking through a bustling Asian street.
Seating arrangements are designed to encourage social interaction, while interactive elements such as a music selection box strengthen the street food concept. Digital screens integrated into the bar area introduce a technological layer that balances tradition with modernity. Bonsai trees and natural elements soften the industrial character, adding an organic contrast to the urban atmosphere.
Designed by Toros and Partners, Yokocho stands as a contemporary example of restaurant interior design in Istanbul, offering a distinctive Asian dining experience within one of the city’s most active transportation and social hubs. The project contributes to the evolving identity of Söğütlüçeşme Terminal as a new urban destination where culture, gastronomy, and architecture intersect.
