Sema’Zen – Istanbul is the heart of the world, where everything revolves around this magical city. With its rich history and diverse culture, Istanbul embraces all. Mevlana, a key figure in Turkish culture, is known for his teachings of love and tolerance.
Sema’Zen brings Mevlana’s wisdom to Istanbul Airport with the message “Come, come again,” inviting the world. Inspired by the movement of all things in the universe, it places Istanbul at the center, symbolizing how the world revolves around it. Through art, it spreads beauty, love, and unity.
The artwork reflects Istanbul’s cultural heritage and keeps Mevlana’s teachings alive. Its movement emphasizes that Istanbul is the center, where everything returns. The two forms in the design represent the dance between day and night, arrival and departure, and connect the sky with the earth, just like the turning of a dervish.
The material used, stainless steel, is durable, recyclable, and low-maintenance. The reflective and matte surfaces symbolize arrival, departure, and self-reflection. Digital screens give information about the artwork, while sounds of seagulls and ferries bring the essence of Istanbul to life. Zen stones in the seating area remind visitors of the merging philosophies of Zen and Mevlana.
